Getting There & Practical Tips

Everything you need to know for your trip to the Cilento

By plane

Nearest airports: Naples Capodichino (NAP, approx. 100 km) and Salerno Costa d'Amalfi (QSR, approx. 60 km). From Naples by train to Salerno, then on to the Cilento.

By train

Trenitalia connects Naples and Salerno with Agropoli-Castellabate. From there continue by bus or rental car. High-speed trains from Rome to Salerno in approx. 2.5 hours.

By car

The car is the most flexible option and allows you to explore even remote villages. Coming from the north: Autostrada A3 (Salerno–Reggio Calabria), exit Battipaglia or Petina.

Practical tips

Rental car recommended – many places are only accessible by car

Bring cash – not all restaurants and shops accept cards

Best travel time: May–June and September–October

Book accommodation early – especially in August

A few words of Italian help – English is rarely spoken

Respect siesta: many shops close 1–4 pm
